On May 9, 2024, Former Town Manager Russell Thurston was presented with a resolution from the House of Delegates commending him upon his retirement after more than 12 years of service to the Town of Brookneal.  Virginia State Delegate Eric Zehr presented the resolution to Mr. Thurston at a Campbell Connects meeting at the Drugstore Grill in Brookneal.

Commending Russell Thurston 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 6, 2024

 

WHEREAS, Russell Thurston, esteemed town manager of the Town of Brookneal who has overseen the growth and prosperity of the locality for more than 12 years, retired from his position with the locality in 2024; and

WHEREAS, a native of Richmond, Russell Thurston began his career in the mailroom of a Fortune 500 manufacturing company and through his diligence and hard work ultimately earned a promotion to plant manager; and

WHEREAS, in addition to working for other manufacturing companies in the Commonwealth, Russell Thurston also taught business management at several institutions of higher education in Virginia before becoming town manager of Brookneal; and

WHEREAS, over his 12-year tenure as town manager of Brookneal, Russell Thurston employed a diverse set of skills, including the ability to administer and oversee projects, to communicate effectively, to develop and maintain budgets, to understand and administer town ordinances, and to resolve any number of complaints and issues that would arise; and

WHEREAS, Russell Thurston always gave every project the attention it deserved and has prepared the Town of Brookneal for its next generation of leaders by ensuring the locality has a strong financial footing going forward; and

WHEREAS, Russell Thurston’s accomplishments as town manager would not have been possible without the steadfast support of Brookneal’s town treasurer, Bobbie Waller, its public works director, Mike Crews; and it’s chief of police, Robert Kolich; and

WHEREAS, through steadfast dedication and an unwavering commitment to the residents he served, Russell Thurston has helped to make the Town of Brookneal a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family; now therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Russell Thurston hereby be commended on the occasion of his retirement as town manager of the Town of Brookneal; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Russell Thurston as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for his contributions to the Commonwealth and best wishes in his future endeavors.
